The Arts Council of West Chester and Liberty offers several art classes.  The Winter/Spring 2009 classes are open to all community members who have an interest in developing their artistic skills (and fit within the age limits set by the instuctor).  Classes will meet once a week and will be limited to 10 students in each class to allow for more interaction with the teacher.  Class sessions will be either 10 weeks long or 5 weeks long and last one hour (7:00 - 8:00 pm).  Five week classes will cost $40.00 and ten week sessions $80.00.  Supplies are provided by the instructor and their is an extra charge for these supplies.

Mondays week 1-5

WOW WIRE! for students grades 3-5.

           Learn how to make 3-d art from wire, beads, glass and found objects.  Each student will leave this 5 week workshop with an original work of art.  Students will  create a wire sculpture that hangs on the wall or sits on a pedestal.  Artist, Pattie Byron, will lead this workshop. her focus will be on helping each artist create their unique vision using professional grade art supplies.  Come let your creative self soar!  There will be an 8.00 material fee.

SUPER SCULPTURE -STORY ASSEMBLAGES

SUPER SCULPTURE -STORY ASSEMBLAGES for students grades 4 and up

           Assemblages are sculptures made from found objects, collage, natural materials and traditional art materials.  These thoughtful works of art become treasures.  Students will create personal sculptures that can be hung on the wall or can be free standing sculptures.  Using professional tools and techniques artist Pattie Byron will introduce beginning and advanced sculpture techniques.  Students may bring in photos, letters and personal items to incorporate into their art.  There will be an 8.00 material fee.

THE WONDER OF WATERCOLOR for students grades 1-up

           Learn new and exciting watercolor techniques that will have you painting like a pro.  Basic and advanced techniques will be covered and students will learn about material composition.  At the end of the classes students will leave with 2 or more art pieces, a diary of watercolor techniques and their own watercolor kit.  There will be a $8.00 material fee.

           CREATIVE JOURNALS Open to students in grades 4 and up.


           Learn to create your own handcrafted books.  Using unique materials and binding techniques students will create several types of books that can be used for journals, albums, sketchbooks or their own stories.  There will be a $6.00 material fee.

Beyond the #2 Pencil
with Anna van Milligen


Class dates: Tuesdays Weeks 1 - 5

Learn how to use the basic tools and techniques needed for drawing various still life sketches:  which pencils to use for different effects, shading, form and value, composition/mapping out a drawing, etc. 


Students will spend time practicing techniques, doing quick thumbnail sketches, developing a sketchbook and working on one larger still life either of their choice and making or one that the instructor will provide.


Supply Fee:      $16.00  Instructor will use the fee to purchase appropriate variety of drawing pencils, kneaded eraser, paper and sketch book for each student.
